Evanna discovered the craft of woodturning in 1999 when her husband Jim dragged her to a tool show. She masked her boredom while they wandered through the aisles, until she saw a man turning wood on a lathe. Evanna watched, transfixed, for the next 30 to 40 minutes as the man used various tools – including a mini lathe – to transform the raw wood into a beautiful lidded box.
Leaving the show, Evanna told her husband she wanted a lathe. Soon after, she found a man to give her lessons and was surprised to learn her new teacher was the very man who’s turning demonstration first inspired her.
She’s been happily turning ever since, including becoming the president of North Carolina’s oldest woodturners club.
Evanna primarily hand-crafts turned utilitarian pieces, beautiful works of art meant to be used every day. She also has created a line of exquisite one-of-a-kind wooden magic props which she only sells to magicians.
Her magical roots go much deeper than her woodturning roots. Her mother is Celeste Evans, one of the most famous female magicians in the last 65 years.
